BALTIMORE (WNEW/AP) — School officials in Baltimore are increasing security at a high school due to rising tensions between black and Latino students.
Police have increased patrols at Digital Harbor High School in Federal Hill following a fight and an assault last week.
“There were some problems between students, and that’s what started everything,” student Jose Dominguez told CBS Baltimore.
Students say they are scared to walk the halls.
“It’s like segregation. Hispanic kids stay on one side. The African Americans stay on the other,” Sevi Chaplin, a student at the school, told CBS Baltimore. “They’ve been breaking out into fights, riots, everything else.”
Parents were called to a meeting Tuesday night with police and school officials to discuss the situation.
Some parents say they have kept their children home from school over the security worries.
