Dolphins Mark A Couple Of Firsts In 2014 Draft

CBS Miami

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – For the first time since 2010 the Miami Dolphins did not draft a player who played collegiately in Florida. In the 52 all-time drafts, including the 1966 Expansion Draft and the 1966 Redshirted Draft, the Dolphins have selected at least on player from a Florida college.

The Dolphins drafted three players in 2014 from schools that the team had never previously selected a player from; Walt Aiken from Liberty (4th Round, 125th Overall), Matt Hazel from Coastal Carolina (6th Round, 190th Overall) and Terrence Fede from Marist (7th Round, 234th Overall).

With the selection of Aiken in the fourth round, it marked the 43rd college Draft in franchise history in which the Dolphins selected at least one defensive back. Aiken becomes the first Liberty player selected in the NFL Draft since Rashad Jennings was taken by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round during the 2009 Draft.
